Blog 4_Context & Building 2 - Site and Context (Lim Wen Jen)

This article will be focused on the Site and Context of the project of our Design Studio 4. The site, which is located at the outskirts of the Kuala Terrenganu city center called Pura Tanjung Sabtu sits on a land surrounded by a river curved around it. On that land sits an old mansion once lived by a higher class royalty.

On the immediate adjacent context, it is more of a rural suburban area with dense vegetation and greenery, with a small community living in a village just beside the Pura Tanjung Sabtu land. The small village consists of the essential ammenities to keep the community going, such as religious buildings like mosque and prayer halls located all around the village as the majority of the residnets are muslims, and rows of shoplots which comprises of minimarkets, food stalls, barbers and so on. Theres even a golf resort for the people if they wish to have a day off to relax.

In comparison to the city center, this is just a small but functional part of the town. Unlike the city center which has major fish markets and shopping centers, city halls governmental bodies, more major religious centers, ports and a more wider range of shops and amenities. But since the city center is a 14km drive from the Pura Tanjung Sabtu site, which is a reasonable distance to drive to to access the less essential amenities.

Other than the city center's attraction, there is also an airport just 8 km away from site, which means tourists from other states or countries could easily access to the site. Allowing for more traffic if a tourist attraction is to be built within that area. Speaking of traffic, the east coast expressway connects along the main road that leads to the Pura Tanjung Sabtu site.
